The East Wind
"Named after the revolutionary wind from the east — a symbol of strength, direction, and unstoppable momentum."
In 1969, construction began on what would become one of the world's great automotive empires. China's Second Automobile Works — Dongfeng's founding entity — was established in the remote Qinling mountains of Hubei Province as part of Chairman Mao's strategic inland industrial programme. An entire city, Shiyan, grew up around it.
On November 18th, 1975, the Chinese State Council officially approved the name "东风" — Dongfeng, meaning East Wind. Drawn from a beloved revolutionary song, the name captured a spirit of momentum and purpose that has defined the brand for over five decades since.
